Atmosphere: Very basic.  The menu is displayed on the wall near the front door and then you get in a line and tell the cook what you want and he will cook your steak to order.  Quickly make your salad from the salad bar and then get drinks/pay at the end of the counter.  Food is brought to the table when it is ready.  Both booths and tables are offered, as well as a second dining room in the back of the restaurant for larger parties.

Menu: 14 oz Sirloin, fillet, New York Strip, fried shrimp, grilled chicken breast and gyro sandwiches.  All steaks come with baked potato, piece of Texas Toast and side salad. May substitute potato for french fries.  Slices of pie available for dessert.

Price guide: $8-15

What I ordered: The daily special was a 6oz sirloin for $6.95.  All this for that price was a pretty great deal!  I had ordered my steak medium, but it was so thin it was closer to well-done (although tender). It didn’t have many (if any?) seasonings and tasted like the grill.  I feel like I can’t complain too much because it was still a lot for the money.

My companion ordered the 14oz bone-in Sirloin.  Very tender and lean.  Again, lacking on the seasonings.

Service: Basic counter service.  Not overly friendly.

Overall Impression: Fast and cheap.

  1. I just discovered this place and I am in LOVE. The burgers and fries are amazing. They have a double double cheeseburger and french fries with all the fixings and it’s about $6. Soooo juicy and tasty. The fries are fresh cut and are delish. Never had the steak, but I go there for the burgers anyway! YUM!

  2. Our family of 12 or so went to the White Bear location the nite after Christmas. Our friendly, but rowdy bunch went to the back room, and we had the best steak dinner ever! I had the sirloin with shrimp special for $12.99 and my daughter shared a little of my steak, and I still had some to take home! Absolutely delicious desert, chocolate cheesecake. I really didn’t have room for it, but I managed somehow! The owners are super friendly. I will be back.

  3. great lunch stop the place has been in business for over 30 yrs so they must be doing something right. kinda like the white castle of steak joints

  4. I love this place. I have been going there all my life. It is the spot where I can feed a family of 7 a great meal with out crying at the price. I love the owners they are friendly with me I have never had any problems. Eat at the White Bear Avenue location 1X per week!

  5. I’ve been going there for over twenty years. Very reasonable prices, good food and I don’t think I’ve ever walked out of there without them yelling out “Thank you” as I was walking out the door.

  6. The meat still looks raw. The food doesn’t entice my appetite.

  7. Thanks for the info. It is hard to get objective info on steaks. Thanks

  8. Oh yeah, they are Greek, so gyros is on the menu as well.

  9. If you’re ever in Farmington, check out the Farmington Steak House.
Same setup, but it is owned and operated by one family(whom live upstairs from the place), the meat is all hand picked and purchased through local farmers.
Nice (large) tender steak platter with steak fries, salad, pie, texas toast, and a soda for under $10 total!
The steak burger on texas toast meal is something like $2.50!
    Check it out.

  10. I hear you Deidre, there’s just something about this place that I like too. I have friends and relatives who have been to dozens and dozens of great steak places, but they all still go to Best Steak house at least a few couple times a year, as do I.

  11. I am a total closet Best Steak House lover! I even ate there two days in a row when I was pregnant. I don’t know what it is about this place that keeps me coming back…can it really be those gray steaks?
