Why: "National Pancake Week has its origins in ancient times, when families
would try to empty their pantries of rich foods like butter, eggs and
milk before Lent. This combination resulted in pancakes, which
continued to grow in popularity. Another little known fact is that Fat
Tuesday, occurring on February 24 this year, is also called Pancake
Day. The United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, India and Canada also
celebrate a Pancake Day or Pancake Tuesday, often holding races or
using pancake sales to support charities"
