I was there last night. No Receipt

Ordered giardinera on the Italian Beef – Came with the Hottest Jalapenos I have ever eaten, Just ruined the sandwhich.

Chicago Dog was grey from sitting around too long and did not taste like fresh Vienna beef.

Relish was old and musty tasting

Bread was stale and hard on the ends.

I did have to wait awhile and don’t believe that I will be going back there.

Pappy’s on White Bear Ave would be a better choice.

I grew up in Chicago. I worked for 3 years during high school at Papa John’s (a hot dog stand – related to Mickey’s) in the western suburbs. I’ve purchased and enjoyed Maxwell polish’s from Maxwell Street before they moved all the restaurants down to Roosevelt. I’ve made and served countless hot dogs, hamburgers, polish’s, italian sausage and beef sandwiches. I’ve cut up onions by the gallons. I’ve washed dishes for hours. etc… etc… I love this food.
1. I have waited in line 12-15 minutes for 2 hot dogs and fries. I know exactly how long it takes to make a hot dog and these time frames are just sad. Even with frying time for fries, this is way too long. And it’s EVERY time. Every order takes this long. I’ve ordered a beef and a hot dog – no fries. That one was almost 20 min. I can’t get out of there in 5 minutes ever. I know that no matter when I go to Chris and Rob’s, I’ll have to stand around.
2. I watched the Italian sausage I ordered come out of a box, go into the microwave, and then off into the back somewhere (probably to the grill). Microwave? Really?
3. I’m rarely offered a receipt. Like I said – I’ve worked in food service. When I don’t get offered a receipt, I know somethings off.
4. Often, the food I ordered is not what I get. I’m not the whiny type – I don’t make a big deal of it. Usually the peppers are missing – or not the ones I ordered (sport vs. giardiniera)
3. There’s a tip jar out front, but as long as I keep getting my order made wrong – and the silly defensive sullen stupid attitude I got today, I won’t be leaving a tip.

As a 54 yr Chicago resident and product of the west side, I can tell you I have eaten some “beefs” and “dogs” around Chi-town. Trust me on that. Chris and Rob’s does a respectable job for being 400 miles from Chicago. Their combos are very good, but PLEASE stop asking me if I want cheese on it !!! Nobody, but nobody in Chicago puts cheese on a beef.
They have a ways to go to get to the unbelievable quality beefs served at places like Johnnies in Elmwood Park IL (a simply religious experience), but for my beef fix in Minnesota…..good stuff.

The fact the you use terms like Hotdog and Beef Sandwich tells me you are clueless regarding CHICAGO food! It’s a Chicago Dog (preferrably dragged through the park) and an Itallian Beef! This is NOT Minnesota food! It is awesome, outrageous Chicago Food! Love it!!!!

What a relief from all the nasaty pork and chicken hotdogs, swedish meatballs, ranch dressing and other boring foods I’ve discovered saturate the twin cities.

I absolutely love the Chicago Dogs. I have not tried the beef sand. but the pizza looks wonderful. Best Chicago dogs outside of Chicago. Great outdoor seating in MPLS

Man I want some fries now. Small places like that are always a gamble: Sometimes they have the best food ever, and a dinky interior, sometimes it’s the other way around.

Don’t Ever Eat At Chris and Robs!
They robbed me at the Minneapolis location, charged me double on seperate charge I did not sign for, When I called to talk with the owner he yelled at me and then said it was my fault and I needed to learn about finances.
Excuse, I have a degree, and a perfect credit score. What do I need to learn? Or shall we say they need to learn about costumer service?
If you don’t want to feel ridiculed or robbed, avoid them, that is my opinion. I know customer service, I have been in that industry for 9 years.

their beef sandwich is superior to their hot dogs. best hotdogs in the city are at the gopher bar in DT st. Paul, IMO.

I also love the fried ravioli at Chris and Rob’s one of the best things i’ve tried on the menu… and they deliver.

Really interesting interior but the food looks absolutely delish. Wish I could go there right now, especially now since the weather’s warming up. Love the cheapness of it too ;)
