What we ordered: One of the first things I noticed when I walked into Jakeeno’s for the first time was the white sign with the Daily Specials and a Dollar Menu. I was in the company of three small children and the small order of penne for $1 was about the right size for each of them, but a hungry child could easily eat two. The sauce was tasty and not at all spicy. Garlic cheese toast was also $1. The kids loved them!
The Garlic Cheese Bread was baked to the perfect combo of textures; golden brown and toasty around the edges and on the bottom, then soft and buttery bread under the layer of bubbly provolone. The provolone gave it a deeper flavor than mozzarella would, very tasty!
My companion and I split a full order of the Baby Greens Salad. Pictured below is half the salad, the size of a typical side salad. The baby greens were very fresh, a mix of spinach, arugula and others, then tossed in a balsimic vinaigrette and topped with walnuts and asiago cheese crumbles. I thought the salad was good but it would’ve been better with some type of sweet addition
There were many specialty pizzas that looked great but we decided on this 10″ Primavera Pizza. It isn’t often that I order a veggie-only pizza but this one was very good! The thin crust was covered with Jakeeno’s homemade sauce, then topped with zucchini, yellow squash, peppers, garlic, onions, mushrooms and a generous heaping of mozzarella. This beauty was baked so that all the veggies were cooked but still somewhat al dente. I loved the textures of this pizza and the strong garlic really gave the sauce an extra kick. It would’ve been even better with sausage and/or pepperoni but meat wasn’t necessary to make it delicious.
Service: We had very good service at Jakeeno’s. The server was very accommodating when dealing with the kids in our party and food was served quickly.
Overall Impression: Jakeeno’s is a good restaurant to bring the family but if you can’t dine in, they also deliver. Make sure you ask about daily specials, sometimes they offer all-you-can-eat spaghetti.

Menu: Appetizers at Taj Indian Grill include Samosas (chicken or veggie), Potato Fritters, Hot Wings, Spiced Potato Patties, Fish Pakura (with masala chickpea batter), Chila Paneer (pan seared chicken or shrimp).
Tandoor specialties include Chicken Tikka, Shrimp Tikka or Lamb Tikka.

Taj Indian Grill also has a variety of Naan including traditional Naan, Aloo Naan, Garlic and Cilantro Naan, Bullet Naan (with green chili), Peshwari Naan, and Paneer Naan (indian cheese).
Dessert options include Gulab Jamun (dumpling/donuts in a sweet syrup), Kheer (rice pudding), and Falooda (Indian summer drink).
Price guide: Buffet $8.95 Appetizers $4-8 Entrees $8-11 Naan $3
What we ordered: We all knew we wanted to start with Samosas, so we got an order of the Chicken. These were very large triangular-shaped pockets stuffed with bite-sized pieces of mildly curried chicken. I was looking forward to eating these and they were even better than I had hoped! The wrap was fried to a perfect golden crispness and the chicken inside was tender and flavorful. It was served with some kind of yogurt-based dipping sauce with shredded carrot. We loved these!!
We also order the Potato Fritters, not really knowing what to expect. These were slices of potato battered with chickpea flour and seasonings, then deep fried. These were also good, with potatoes cooked al dente and served with a mint-cilantro chutney for dipping. We all liked these but would probably order a second order of the Samosas next time instead.
Our server highly recommended that we order the Chicken Tikka Masala, the most popular dish at Taj Grill. I asked if I could have the dish made with shrimp instead of chicken, and they were happy to oblige. This was a very tasty dish, with a creamy tomato and onion sauce. It was just mildly spicy although we could have ordered it spicier. It came with 8-10 medium-sized shrimp mixed within and fresh herbs on top. Very delicious and savory dish, the perfect sauce to dip your garlic naan (bread)!!
We also ordered the Mango Chicken, a sweet curry sauce made with curry, mango and coconut milk which was also seasoned with onion and other spices. This was also delicious! It was sweet but not too sweet, rather just enough to compliment the tingle that the spice brings. You can also order it mild if you don’t want much heat. The dish was full of large bites of tender white-meat chicken. Mmmmmmm!!
The third dish we ordered to share was the Vindaloo with Fish. Wow!! I loved the first two dishes I tried and then I tasted the Vindaloo and found my new love. This is one of the best curries I have had, it was so full of flavor! The sauce was made from a blend of hot and spicy onion, tamarind and coconut milk that contained several large pieces of white fish that were perfectly cooked. It had a fair amount of spice to it as well, but could be ordered to your spice preference. I could eat this every day it was so good!
Vindaloo with Fish at Taj Indian Grill~ Minneapolis, MN
Every entree came with a bowl of Biriyani Rice, a basmati rice cooked with spices. It was very light and fluffy, the perfect compliment to every dish.
It is also customary to eat Naan with most Indian meals, so we tried the Naan with Garlic and Cilantro. Yum! It reminded me of a soft pizza crust that was slightly buttery and topped with thinly shaved garlic and fresh cilantro. Great on its own but even better when dipped into one of the curry sauces!
I had never tried an Indian dessert before and was curious about the Gulab Jamun, which was described on the menu as dumplings. The dumplings reminded me of donut holes that were saturated with the sweet syrup that they were served in. This was a very interesting dessert, to say the least!
Service: We were greeted upon entering and sat ourselves. Our server had many recommendations from various sections of the menu and did a thorough job explaining each dish. It seemed to take awhile for our food to be prepared, but that only assured me that our food was all fresh and made-to-order. The cook and owner, Sahal, was very polite and appreciative of our business. We had a great experience at Taj and wouldn’t hesitate to go back again soon.
Overall Impression: A delicious and wide variety of Indian foods at extremely reasonable prices (nothing over $11), so go ahead and add Taj Indian Grill to your list of Good Cheap Eats! If you crave Indian food or even if you have never tried it, Taj Indian Grill is the place to go for a lot of flavor. Everything was wonderful but I highly recommend the Chicken Samosas and the Vindaloo. I will be back soon to try the all-you-can-eat buffet!

What we ordered: We started with an order of Boneless Wings with Sesame Teriyaki Sauce. These were delicious! The pieces of white-meat chicken were very lightly breaded and fried to a golden brown. They were lightly tossed in the sweet yet tangy sesame teriyaki sauce and topped with sesame seeds, served with both ranch and bleu cheese dressings for dipping. Excellent choice!
I had no doubt in my mind I was going to order the Deep-Dish Pizza, so that is exactly what I did. The crust of this pizza was indeed thick, chewy and crispy on the bottom. The cheese was baked directly on top of the crust and then topped with a generous amount of pizza sauce. I love the sauce at Green Mill, it is sweet and zesty and has small chunks of stewed tomato mixed in. The 8″ small was more than enough for me, I even had half a pizza leftover to take home! So yummy!
One of my companions ordered the Chicken Cashew Salad Sandwich. This sandwich looked great; so fresh and light! The salad itself had chunks of white-meat chicken mixed with cashews, diced green onion, red grapes and mayonnaise. It was served on toasted cranberry bread with shredded romaine lettuce.
Another companion ordered the Chipotle Chicken Nachos and an order of Sweet Potato Fries. The Nachos were served on a long plate, with crunchy chips topped with shredded chipotle chicken, pepper jack, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses and topped with fresh pico de gallo, salsa, guacamole, shredded lettuce and sour cream. These were also very yummy but slightly overcooked.
The Sweet Potato Fries were served in a large cone, very good!
Service: My party of 3 adults and one small child arrived shortly after opening on a Sunday and we were the first customers of the day. Needless to say there was no problem getting a parking spot or a table! We had great service, our server was very accommodating to our needs. Food and drinks were brought promptly; service with a smile.
Overall Impression: Green Mill is a great restaurant with a varied menu that appeals to just about anyone. Their Deep Dish Pizza is awesome. Many locations to choose from!

The inside of the Metropolitan Club is quite spacious with two-story windows overlooking the field on one side and downtown Mpls on the other. Very modern.
Here is a view of the field from the outdoor seating area at the Metropolitan Club. When looking at the field, you are in right field just behind the foul line.
Menu: The selections change every day and depend on whether it is an afternoon or evening game. There are four stations including the Salad Station, Hot Station, Grill/Rotisserie Station and the Butcher Block
The Grill/Rotisserie Station. Brunch selections usually include bacon, sausage, potatoes of some kind, eggs, veggie medley
Butcher Station and Hot Station. Butcher station usually has Prime Rib and the Hot Station usually has an International Dish.
Salad Action Station includes a variety of cheeses, cured meats and crustinis.
There is also a Dessert Station which I was very disappointed to learn is NOT INCLUDED in the $29/person price. The desserts looked wonderful though.
Price guide:
- Buffet style with themed cooking stations: $29/person + tax.
(alcoholic beverages available separately) - Full-service bar
*There is a $5/person table fee which will be applied each order for watching the game at a viewing table or drink rail location during the second seating.
- Desserts are not included in the price of the buffet and are sold a la carte.
What I ate: I started with a small salad and fruit plate. The salad was pre-made with smoked salmon and endive. Garnishments like croutons and sunflower seeds are served on the side. I also had a couple of fruits with yogurt sauce.
Next I tried a small selection of cheeses, toasted pita chips and the Prime Rib. The cheeses were good, I had a seasoned feta and a Monterey Jack with dill. I also liked the prime rib but I prefer it when it is sliced against the grain rather than with it, seems less tender. The horseradish was slightly creamy but still strong.
The breakfast line had the most variety and also my favorite item I ate, which was a croissant with grilled ham and a fried egg. Delicious! Other items I tried were the Potatoes O’Brien, Roasted Veggies and Panko-Crusted Turkey Tenderloin, all very good.
I also tried the Cioppino, which is a blend of many different types of seafood including mussels, shrimp, clams and some type of white fish simmered in a broth of tomato, wine, basil, thyme, and oregano. It was pretty good but not the best I have tried.
Service: There are two seating times, 1st seating: from gates-open to 15 minutes prior to game-time; 2nd seating: from game-time to end-of-game. Space and seating is limited and will be provided on a first-come/ first-served basis. Reservations strongly encouraged. To make a reservation request, call the Metropolitan Club reservation line 10 AM-4 PM, Monday-Friday & on weekend game-days at 612-659-3964. Have your season ticket account # available when making a reservation and indicate which seating you prefer (1st seating or 2nd seating). Dining tables can be reserved anytime within 2 weeks of each game.
Our service was very good. We had made advanced reservations and were able to sit outside during the game, eating the food at a leisurely pace until the end of the 4th inning. Drinks are not included but are served quickly.
Overall Impression: I enjoyed my lunch at the Metropolitan Club and thought the experience was a cool one, but I will probably only go back for a special occasion. I thought the price was a little high for the selection, especially considering that dessert is not included, however Metropolitan Club is a great place to watch the game (seats in the shade!)

Sunday Brunch Buffet $16.95 Adults $8.95 Kids includes Champagne, Prime Rib, Made-to-order Omelets and Waffles, Peel and Eat Shrimp, Salad Bar, 7 Breakfast and Lunch Entrees, and Dessert Table.
What I ate: My visit was during Sunday Brunch. My first plate included prime rib, Salmon Pasta, Green Beans, Potates O’Brien, Bacon, and Cheesy Scrambled Eggs. Everything I tried was decent, typical buffet quality, but nothing outstanding. My cut of prime rib was cooked more than I prefer and therefore not as tender as I like it. I ate a couple of bites of each item before deciding I needed to try something else.
My second plate was a much bigger hit after a visit to the made-to-order Omelet and Waffle Stand. They had a variety of toppings for the waffles which were hot and golden brown. I ordered my omelet with everything (tomato, onion, peppers, mushrooms, ham, bacon and cheddar) and it was so good! My favorite way to eat eggs.
Yes, I did get another small plate (for the sake of this review of course!). The salad was basic but good and I also tried the spare ribs in gravy. The meat was so good! It was very tender and flavorful. I would have loved to try more of that but I was very full at this point.
I got a small dessert plate (also for the sake of this review!) I love cheesecake so I had to try a bite of the Winner’s Circle cheesecake. What a disappointment! The taste and texture both seemed off and I didn’t make it past a 2nd bite. I also tried the blueberry cobbler and the creme-filled chocolate cake. I was too full to get excited about any of it.
Here is the dessert plate of one of my companions

Service: My party of 8 adults and 3 small kids had a reservation and were able to be seated at our table immediately. They had set up a special table for us in the large banquet space. Our server was friendly and accommodating with drinks and other small requests.
Overall Impression: The food served on the Sunday Brunch was decent, I recommend the omelets and waffles! Our service was really good. I would like to go back for dinner to order off the menu

Atmosphere: The Atlantic Buffet is located within a large strip mall called Woodbury City Centre. When you first walk inside the reception/lobby area, the Atlantic Buffet in Woodbury has a cute little mini-pond set up with Koi swimming around inside, and live plants arranged around it. The main dining room is arranged into at least two dining areas on half of the large space, the other half of the restaurant has all the Buffet Islands set up. The dining areas contain both tables and booths and have a contemporary feel.
Here is a glimpse of the Buffets Islands (I think there were 6-8 of them).
In the way back of the Buffet Islands there is an additional area set up for the Mongolian Stir-Fry. You can choose your own ingredients and then you have the chef ccok it for you on the Mongolian BBQ.
Menu: The items on the buffet change frequently, but there are over 100 items, including a decent selection of Chinese foods, Sushi, American foods, Seafood, and build-your-own Mongolian Stir-Fry. There is also a dessert and fruits table, and salad bar.
There is also a full Chinese Take-Out menu available.
Price guide:
- Lunch Buffet Kids 3-6 $4.25 Kids 7-11 $5.50 Adults $8.25
- Dinner Buffet Kids 3-6 $5.75 Kids 7-11 $7.25 Adults $12.50
What I ordered: There were many food items at Atlantic Buffet and I was determined to try a little of this and a little of that. Here is my Chinese/Sushi plate. The cheesy mushrooms were very good, as were the steamed dumplings and cream cheese wontons. The few bites I tried of the chicken & Broccoli stir-fry were okay, but I did not care for the other meat entree I tried (not sure what it was but the meat was stringy and chewy). The sushi was decent although there wasn’t a large variety to choose from, mostly California Rolls or Salmon/Avocado Rolls.
I made my own Mongolian stir-fry which was my most favorite dish at the Atlantic Buffet. I chose the ingredients I wanted at the Mongolian BBQ station (Beef, Broccoli, Pineapple, Onions and Noodles) and figured out my own combination of sauces (there was no guide to help!) which included cooking wine, teriyaki, garlic, chile peppers, and sesame seeds. I have found that the more sauce you put on, the better it tastes because the noodles and vegetables soak it right up.
I tried just a few items on my Seafood Plate, including tiny mussels (pretty good, not too chewy or rubbery) that were cooked in a fish sauce. The salmon was okay and I also tried a bite of Halibut.
For the sake of this review I also made a Dessert Plate. Nothing too exciting here but the rice krispie bar and almond cookies were good. They also have soft-serve ice cream.
Service: We were greeted upon entering and were shown to a table right away. Drinks were fast and continuous throughout our visit, as was the clearing of plates.
Overall Impression: Wide variety and selection of foods for the price. The Mongolian BBQ and Seafood Buffet offered the best choices, but I thought the quality of the the Chinese food was just mediocre.

Atmosphere: Both the Maplewood and West St Paul locations are located within strip malls. Each restaurant has a large, open space for the dining areas. Silk Kimonos adorn the walls and here and there you will see silk plants as well. Rectangular-shaped wooden tables are placed close together throughout the space, easy to accommodate larger groups.
There are four large buffet islands, with additional tables for dessert and also a separate stir-fry section at the West St Paul location. Each buffet island has about 10-12 food items.
The West St Paul location also has a custom stir-fry area. Similar to Khan’s, choose your frozen sliced meats, Vegetables and sauces and the chef will cook it up in front of you on the Mongolian BBQ.
Menu: Appetizers include Egg Rolls, Cream Cheese Wonton, Cheesey Potatoes, Sweet Biscuits, Sesame Cakes, Pork Sausages, Egg Foo Young, Roast Duck, BBQ Ribs, and Steamed Dumplings.
Soups include Hot & Sour and Wonton. There is also Lo Mein, Fried Rice, White Rice, Rice Noodle and String Beans.

Price guide: Lunch Buffet $8-9 Dinner Buffet $11-12
What I Ate: My visit was at lunch time with a group of colleagues, but I still wanted to try a selection of foods. I had Cream Cheese Wontons, Boneless BBQ Ribs, Steamed Dumpling, General Tao’s Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Fried Rice, and a Rice Noodle dish with veggies. The cream cheese wontons were the biggest I have ever had! They were stuffed full of a cream-cheese mixture that was slightly sweet. The steamed dumplings were very good, with a flavorful pork/onion mixture. The meats that I tried were okay, but I would not say these use high quality meat. The Sweet and Sour as well as the General Tao’s Chicken was kind of fatty and gristly and the batter was soggy.
I wasn’t quite satisfied with what I actually ate from my first plate, so I opted to wait in line for my own custom stir-fry. I chose beef, broccoli, pineapple, onions, pepper and mushrooms with noodles and several scoops of all the different cooking sauces. There is only one cook making stir-fry and he only cooks one dish at a time, so I had to wait at least 10 minutes for my plate. I was only able to get a few good bites in before it was time to head back to work, but I was very happy with my stir-fry dish.
Service: At Great Moon you must pay for your meal before you enter the dining room but from that point forward, there are many servers ava
ilable to take drink orders, clear plates, etc.
Overall Impression: Huge buffet with many options, but I would say food is just slightly better than mediocre in taste and quality. Make-it-yourself Stir-Fry option at West St Paul is a big bonus.
