What we ordered: My companions and I started with the Deep Fried Mushrooms. The mushrooms had a thick, crunchy, solid breading that had been fried to a dark golden color. I thought these were very good but the mushrooms inside the breading had shrunk quite a bit while cooking, leaving a lot more batter than mushroom. It was served with a mild blue cheese dressing for dipping.
My companions also ordered some of the Potato Skins which were covered with melted cheddar and Monterey jack, bacon, green onions and sour cream on the side. I did not eat these but my companions liked them.
For my entree I ordered a Swiss cheese Juicy Lucy with bacon ( because bacon makes every burger even better). The burger was made with two 1/4 lb patties pressed together with cheese melted in the middle. It was extremely hot so I cut it in half as seen below (served whole). There was a substantial amount of cheese escaping the pocket of meat but it sure was great tasting! There was a thin layer of pickles under the patty. I liked it a lot but honestly didn’t have that different of an experience than I would with a traditional bacon and swiss burger. The french fries were an “add on” to the burger for an additional charge. Tasty but basic shoe-string fries
One of my companions ordered the American Cheese Juicy Lucy with mushrooms in a basket with Onion Rings. The Juicy Lucy was indeed hot and juicy, loaded with melted cheese. The onion rings were fried to a crispy dark golden brown and were just the right thickness for my liking

Another companion ordered an American cheese Juicy Lucy with Bacon and Swiss melted on top, also in a basket with onion rings and a small side of coleslaw.
Service: This was my first time at this location of the 5-8 and the restaurant was pretty busy, being a Friday night. I have to admit I was a little confused when I first arrived because there was no hostess stand or a sign anywhere inviting guests to find a seat and there didn’t seem to be anyone handy to ask. My companions and I took the liberty of seating ourselves in a booth and were greeted shortly after by one of the wait staff. Our server was very friendly and also had a great sense of humor. The food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time considering how busy it was.
Overall Impression: If you haven’t ever had a Juicy Lucy before, what are you waiting for? The 5-8 is a great place to try the famous creation and they have four different varieties of cheese so there is something for everyone. They also have a variety of other sandwiches and entrees on the menu with very reasonable prices, especially considering the large portion sizes. My only suggestion is that 5-8 should have malts on their menu because what could go better with a burger basket than a nice creamy ice cream malt or shake?!

What We Ordered: My companion and I shared a bowl of the Soup du Jour which happened to be Cream of Chicken Wild Rice. It was a hot and hearty soup, perfect for warming up on a freezing cold day like we have had all too frequently lately. The soup was very flavorful with the chicken, vegetables, wild rice and and was also seasoned nicely. It included a hint of some kind of pepper and just a little kick to it that I wasn’t expecting but thoroughly enjoyed. The breadstick was pretty good too; warm, soft and slighty buttered with garlic salt.
I love sandwiches and while there were many that caught my eye at Tiffany’s, I ordered my favorite sandwich of all, the Reuben. It seems that I am always on a quest for a really good Reuben and this one at Tiffany’s ranks up there with the best! The corned beef brisket is cooked for 8 hrs. in Guinness and special spices and was very flavorful and tender. The meat was sliced thin and piled high on top of the buttery-grilled, swirled rye bread. The Swiss cheese was melted perfectly and the sauerkraut and thousand island dressing gave it the extra zip to make it a most delicious Reuben. The hand-cut fries were also excellent, just like what you get at the State Fair except slightly thinner.
My companion had the Blue Gill Burgers, which were three “sliders” AKA mini fish sandwiches. Each of the three sandwiches had a nice-sized sunfish fillet that was slightly battered with bread crumb’s and Leinenkugel’s, then pan fried to a light golden brown. The batter gave it a little bit of a crispy texture but it was very light and the fish was tender. Each sandwich was topped with a tomato slice, romaine lettuce and garlic aioli sauce. Very delicious! It is a treat to see sunfish on a local restaurant menu such as Tiff’s.
The desserts also sounded wonderful so I tried the Turtle Cheesecake. The cheesecake was layered, with a thin layer of chocolate cheesecake at the bottom that slightly marbles into the main layer of cheesecake, which was rich and smooth and creamy. The top was covered with a thin layer of caramel cheesecake and then topped with candied pecans. So good! Too rich for me to eat by myself or in one sitting for that matter, but I would definitely eat it again :)
Service: We were able to get a parking space on the street and a table immediately upon our arrival. I did not notice a host/hostess the night of our visit so I assume it might be seat-yourself. Our overall service at Tiffany’s was very good! Our server was very friendly and had several recommendations off the menu for us. Drinks were brought and refilled quickly, as was our food.
Overall Impression: Great Sports hangout!! The recent renovation to the kitchen allows Tiffany’s to serve really good food at extremely reasonable prices. It is a very fun place to get a bite to eat and watch a game or play a round of pool, which makes it a popular place for local college kids as well as for families (anyone would enjoy it at Tiff’s!). There are many other sandwiches on the menu that I would like to try, as well as the burgers and wings. I will be back to Tiffany’s Sports Lounge to eat again very soon!

What I ordered: I was really in the mood for a sandwich and the Chipotle Chicken looked perfect for me (and it was!). The chicken breast had been marinated in chipotle spices so the juicy tender meat was very flavorful and also had somewhat of a smoky flavor to it. The breast was grilled and topped with melted Manchengo cheese, which was creamy and also slightly smoky. Large slices of fresh avocado and a spicy chipotle sauce complete this sandwich which is served on a fresh toasted bun. The combination of flavors and textures in this sandwich were a big hit, my only complaint is that the bun seemd too small and the ingredients wanted to slide right out. The shoe string fries were cooked a little too long (from frozen) and were on the hard side, with many small pieces of too-crispy-to-eat potatoes.
My companion asked for a suggestion on the Burger Menu and was told to try the Portabella Gorgonzolla Burger. Fabulous creation of flavors and textures! The large freshly-made burger patty was made with 1/1 lb of fresh ground Angus beef and then grilled to order, with a giant sauteed protabella mushroom cap and a hearty portion of gorgonzola layered on top of the beef . This burger was so big that it deserves a bigger bun. Awesome choice!
Service: We were greeted by the hostess within a few minutes of arriving and were shown to our table. The restaurant wasn’t too busy after the dinner rush on a Tuesday, but it was at least five minutes before we were greeted by our server. Our server was friendly and gave us great suggestions about the menu but wasn’t always there when needed (refills, box, bill, etc). Our food was served reasonably fast and overall the service was decent.
Overall Impression: Great sandwiches and burgers at Oak City! Prices seemed slightly high but comparable to other restaurants of the same caliber. Would love to try Oak City’s Sunday Brunch and the weekly specials look great too

Price guide: Appetizers $6-8 Sandwiches $8-10 Entrees $10-18
What I ordered: The buffalo chicken salad (layered bleu cheese crumbles, carrots, celery and pico de gallo on a bed
of greens tossed in a creamy Ranch dressing, topped with buffalo
fried chicken, and placed inside a crispy tortilla shell). This salad was LOADED! The Buffalo sauce had a nice kick to it, the veggies were fresh and crisp, and the tortilla shell was light and crispy.
One of my companions ordered a cheeseburger. The beef was juicy and fresh, the bacon smoky and crisp.
Another companion ordered the Turkey O’ Toole (Juicy turkey breast sliced thin, melted Swiss cheese and Smoky
Honey Dijon dressing. Served hot on a Bennigan’s pretzel roll.) Bennigan’s was happy to replace French fries with a bowl of their delicious Baked Potato Soup.
Service: Good and fast. Our visit was on a Saturday at noon and it didn’t seem to be too busy.
Overall Impression: Good food at a reasonable price, fast service. Tucked back in an area that doesn’t have other restaurants, kind of hard to find.

Atmosphere: Dummy’s is a very large restaurant, with an even bigger banquet hall attached to the back half of the building. Adjacent to the dining area you see pictured below, there is a large bar in the center of the back room, with bistro tables surrounding it. Very nice area, but smoking is allowed and my impression was that there had been a LOT of cigarettes smoked in the bar recently. There is a also a screened in porch overlooking the public golf course next door, with patio tables. This was the perfect place to sit for lunch on a beautiful sunny day. Here is the picture of the main dining room.
Menu: Appetizers include the Dummy’s Drummys, walleye cheeks, chicken nachos or quesadillas, onions rings, mozzarella sticks, potato cheese poppers and chicken fingers. Besides five hamburger variations, Dummy’s has chicken wraps and many other sandwiches including the Prime Time, Cajun chicken, chicken Parmesan, Reuben and Buffalo Chicken. Dinner entrees include the Super Bowl Sirloin, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and asparagus, spaghetti and meatballs, meat balls and gravy, pan seared walleye, tequila lime chicken, steak or chicken stir-fry, fajitas and gourmet pizzas. Salad eaters- Never fear, they do have a few premium salads.
Price guide: Appetizers- $5-9 Sandwiches and Burgers $7-8 Dinners $9-14
What I ordered: Chicken quesadillas (flour tortillas filled with spicy chicken, jack cheddar cheese, chipotle pepper sauce, tomatoes, onions and jalapenos. Served with sour cream and salsa. I was very impressed with the size of these quesadillas- eight whole slices! They were loaded with cheese and a mix of chopped chicken, jalapenos and onions. I liked the flavor the jalapenos and onions gave the quesadillas, but there was something about the chicken that I didn’t like…not sure how it was cooked, but it was kind of rubbery and didn’t have much flavor. I was also disappointed that they didn’t have any guacamole; apparently they don’t sell enough of it to keep making fresh batches. Boo Hoo! Quesadillas just aren’t the same to me without guacamole :( I did, however, really enjoy the buttery, crispy texture of the tortilla.
One of my companions ordered the Prime Time sandwich. Thought the beef and toppings were pretty good, but the chintzy hot-dog bun they served it on was way too weak to hold all the toppings and was very messy to eat after it fell apart. It is highly recommended to find a new, thicker style of bread to serve this on!
Another of my companions ordered the grilled buffalo chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. he thought the sandwich was pretty good also, as long as you like char-broiled chicken. There didn’t seem to be enough buffalo sauce on the sandwich either.
Service: Our visit was mid-afternoon on a Monday, so the only person who appeared to work in the dining room/bar area was the bartender. We chose to sit in the screened in porch outside, so it was only every so often that the server/bartender would come check on us. The owner of Dummy’s also happened to be at the restaurant at the time of our visit and came out to check on us and chatted with us for awhile about the golf course next door.
Overall Impression: The food was decent, but far from impressive. Might try it again, but not a place I will be rushing back to anytime soon.
